Today, seven different authors are dropping blog posts about a science fiction world that they created and then wrote separate books in.
I’m one of the seven.
(Sounds like I’m starting my owncult. I promise, I’m not!)
The idea for Paradisi Chronicles came from a statement from Hugh Howey, independent author extraordinairre, about getting creative and taking chances. We dreamt up an intriguing world fraught with conflict set against a science fiction backdrop. We imagined many authors writing across the genre spectrum and creating an entire universe (or more) of fiction that would captivate readers for days.
Paradisi Chronicles was created with the concept of a post-apocalyptic exodus from Earth. Each author is writing in a different time period or location and, although the primary concept of the world is clearly based in science fiction, many genres are represented. From adult action-adventure to YA romance, the authors involved have written about interstellar travel, space elevators, wormholes, the complications of settling a new planet, and interacting with the native population that has psychic abilities. There truly is something for everyone.
Here’s a blurb from our website about the world of Paradisi Chronicles.
In the last decades of the twenty-first century, ten wealthy men and women, seeking to escape the increasingly devastated Earth, focus all their power and wealth on developing the technology and building the spaceships that will allow a select few to leave Earth and colonize the world they call New Eden. Here, on their new home in the Paradisi star system, these founding families hope to avoid the environmental and political mistakes that were destroying Earth. But they find that the world they claim for their own is already inhabited, and the Ddaeran, the original inhabitants, although human-like in their appearance, possess abilities that the founders and their descendants will find both intriguing and frightening.
My novella, First Watch, features the experiences of Levra Shield as she leaves earth for New Eden.
Levra Shield and her husband Gunnar survived the treacherous journey from Earth. When they arrive on New Eden, she is fascinated by the planet’s native inhabitants. Levra comes to love the Ddaeran people and is eager to learn more about their psychic abilities. When Gunnar is ordered to explore a far off region of the planet, Levra is excited to learn more about the Ddaerans’ culture. But when they arrive at Watcher Bay, Levra learns that her husband’s mission has a sinister purpose. Desperate to save the Ddaeran from a terrible fate at the hands of her former allies, Levra must take drastic action.
